Track Detection for Autonomous Trains
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents a way to e ciently use lane detection techniques known from driver assistance systems to assist in obstacle detection for autonomous trains. On the one hand, there are several properties that can be exploited to improve conventional lane detection algorithms when used for railway applications. The heavily changing visual appearance of the tracks is compensated by very e ective geometric constraints. On the other hand there are additional challenges that are less problematic in classical lane detection applications. This work is part of a sensor system for an autonmous train application that aims at creating an environmentally friendly public transportation system. lane detection, autonomous vehicle, machine vision, train

Effects of track characteristics on dynamic responses of train-bridge systems
High speed trains are an indispensable part of rapid transportation systems in many countries. As the fastest means of transport on the ground, these trains are extremely sensitive to the terrain and track conditions. Geometrical irregularities and mechanical characteristics of the track, together with inconsistencies in the lane (including bridges that support the track) are considered importa...
متن کاملWheelset Condition Monitoring based on pass-by vibration signals
Apart from regular wheel wear such as decreasing wheel diameters and reduced flange thicknesses and heights, wheel flats (WF) and oval wheels (or OOR, Out-Of-Roundness) are the most common wheelset problems for railway vehicles. Within the FP7 Research Project “Saferail”, APT has developed an innovative wheelset monitoring system so-called “Wheel flat and Out of Roundness Monitoring (WORM) syst...

متن کاملAutonomously Driving Trains on Open Tracks - Concepts, System Architecture and Implementation Aspects
This paper describes a cyber-physical system that we called autoBAHN1 as well as some economic and legal aspects for the realization of the vision of a driverless train operating on openly accessible existing railroads, particularly regional branch lines. Existing autonomous trains, for example in use on airports, do not need obstacle recognition because they operate on closed tracks that canno...
متن کاملSiamese Neural Networks for One-shot detection of Railway Track Switches
Deep Learning methods have been extensively used to analyze video data to extract valuable information by classifying image frames and detecting objects. We describe a unique approach for using video feed from a moving Locomotive to continuously monitor the Railway Track and detect significant assets like Switches on the Track. The technique used here is called Siamese Networks – which uses 2 i...
